1.7 million square feet state-of-the-art automotive engine manufacturing and assembly plant. On an aggressive, fast track schedule, the assembly line was operational in 16 months after its groundbreaking. Sullivan Electric installed 27,000 feet of 15kv armored cable from a new Alabama Power substation to provide primary power to the assembly and engine plants. This was accomplished in one weekend using a helicopter to fly the cable into cable trays installed on elevated trestles and on the roof of the assembly and engine plants. The main switchgear and generator were on a level fifty feet above the factory floor. Power distribution to stamping, frame, assembly and paint was accomplished through extensive use of buss duct and motor control centers.
